inFAMOUS: First Light is appropriately named, considering it was the first new game I finished in 2023 (In February.. I know... 100% on RDR2 took up my entire life). This game was an unexpected and pretty spontaneous play for me, but can you blame me for seeing Laura Bailey as the main protagonist and playing it immediately? No, you can't, because who doesn't adore Laura Bailey????????
I honestly really enjoyed this game. After playing cowboy simulator nearly uninterrupted for 6 months, being able to dart around like the flash and use bright neon superpowers to decimate police was REFRESHING (as opposed to... using John's revolver to uh... also decimate police).
The combat was probably my favourite part of this game. It's fast paced and filled with colours and a variety of fun moves. The learned moves through skill points weren't overwhelming or forgettable, they only added to the experience, which really never happens to me!! I always forget button combos but I never had that problem in inFAMOUS: First Light.
The characters were another highlight of this game. Not only were 3 of them played by Critical Role members (Laura, Ashley, Travis), therefore I am biased, but the characters were either very likeable or very hateable only in the short time you know them. I really liked Fetch, Jenny (RIP) and Brent, and could not STAND Shane.
The visuals were beautiful and I had a great time setting up shots in photo mode once I figured out how to use it (more on that later), especially the look of the neon powers. It's a really unique superpower that I've never seen before but has quickly become a concept I really like.
Now for the negatives. My biggest complaint with this game is that THERE WASN'T ENOUGH!!! I know it was meant to be a quick branch off of the main inFAMOUS games to introduce Fetch as a character, but I don't CARE! I WANT MORE OF HER! I was genuinely really disappointed (and a little confused) when the game ended about 5 hours after I started it. I was so disappointed at the length, in fact, that I went back and 100%'d the entire map in a few hours just to get more gameplay out of it. I also participated in a good amount of the optional battle areas for achievements and had a lot of fun.
The photomode controls were atrocious and took me AGES to figure out (I still really have no idea) but it isn't that big of a complaint because I'm just glad they had one!! The music was also pretty forgettable which was disappointing. There was so much potential to have crazy awesome battle music blasting as you shoot colours at people!!!
Overall, I had a ton of fun with inFAMOUS: First Light. I played it for a solid week after I initially finished it and I'm still working toward the platinum trophy (the harder battle areas drive me insane. DEMONS? REALLY? I HAVE TO FIGHT DEMONS?).
I wanna give Fetch a big hug and also be her best friend, that is all.
